On Thursday April 10th, the West Philly Hybrid X Team and students from the Environmental Academy at Lincoln High School traveled to Washington D.C to meet with Senator Bob Casey. The students prepared a presentation for Senator Casey about the West Philly Hybrid X Team, the Progressive Automotive X-Prize, and our previous accomplishments in the Tour De Sol. The students from Lincoln High explained the production of biofuels and their benefits to the Senator. After meeting with the Senator, the students were taken on a tour of the Capitol Building and grounds.

Popular Mechanics recently ranked the West Philly Hybrid X Team in the top 10. Out of 64 teams from 10 different countries, the PM guys think our team has what it takes to win and we tend to agree with them. We think the key to winning is focusing on affordability, style and safety.

PHILADELPHIA (March 7, 2008) -- Philadelphia Academies Inc., one of the nation’s leading nonprofit education and workforce development organizations, today announced that its West Philly Hybrid X Team, based at the West Philadelphia High School Academy for Automotive and Mechanical Engineering, will be an official contender in the Automotive X PRIZE competition. Mayor Michael Nutter and Department of Environmental Protection Secretary Kathleen McGinty joined Philadelphia Academies officials and students in making the announcement at Philadelphia’s City Hall.
