Meeting President Obama

On June 17, 2014 EVX team members and teachers traveled to Washington, DC for the first ever White House Maker Faire. We had so much fun. The trip was amazing! We took the Factory Five 818 car that we built at school this year. It is an alternative fuel car that gets almost 100 miles per gallon. Our car was parked on the lawn of the White House right outside the Oval Office.

Four of us – our Principal Simon Hauger, students Josh Pigford, Derrick Bell, and I - even got the chance to meet President Obama. I was nervous when the cameras first came out, but I got better as the day went on.

President Obama was really nice to meet. He told me to keep doing what I am doing at school and get ahead. It was inspirational. I am sure I will never forget the experience.

We also saw lots of cool inventions, met young inventors, and famous people including Bill Nye the Science Guy and Will.i.am. My favorite invention was the giant talking giraffe. Being a "Maker" at the Workshop School and being a member of the EVX Team has been great. I am looking forward to what we will make this year!
